Ecology is the study of ecosystems. An ecosystem is a community of organisms and their physical environment. An ecosystem might be as small as a rotting log or as big as a forest. Ecological studies are used in conservation, natural resource management, land and wetland management, among many other applications. Understanding and studying ecosystems helps us appreciate our planet and the interconnectedness of everything living on it.
