Watch Me Illustrate a Water Lily!
I thought you might enjoy this short little video I filmed of my illustrating a water lily. I hope it inspires you as you illustrate water lilies and other aquatic pond life during our nature journaling lesson.
I begin by sketching out the basic structure of the water lily, making sure to include all the important anatomical features—such as the flower, leaf, stem, tuber, and roots. Once the basic shapes are in place, I outline the entire illustration with ink pens, adding finer lines and details to emphasize the plant’s structure.
After the ink outline is complete, I layer on color using watercolor paints, carefully blending shades to bring the water lily to life. The finished illustration is then used to create an educational "Anatomy of a Water Lily" poster, which you can enjoy and learn from!
